Easily Remove .45 ACP Cases From Moon Clips
The ammo for a Smith & Wesson Governor is not cheap; .410 shells cost about as much as 12 gauge and .45 Long Colt are expensive.
So most Governor owners shoot a fair amount of .45 ACP because it’s cheaper. And the only way to shoot .45 ACP in a S&W Governor is with moon clips.
The plus side is that moon clips act as speed loaders for quick reloads. The downside is that getting the spent brass out of the moon clip is a bear, especially if you want to keep the cases in good condition for reloading.
A 7/16″ wooden dowel rod works pretty well for removing spend cases but thanks to Amazon I found this neat and easy to use extractor tool that makes the job even easier.
And as you can see on the video below, the wooden dowel rod will not work to unload a moon clip of live ammo – since obviously you cannot insert the dowel rod into the casing! With the Ranch Products FMC extractor tool, the job easy both easy and precise.
What you can also see in the video is that the extractor tool is not caliber specific; it works on my .357 moon clips and .45 moon clips. Don’t be put off by the “FMC” in the name of this tool, it will work on the 2 round 1/3 moon clips in addition to the 6 round Full Moon Clips; though you don’t really need the tool for the 2 round clips, the cases come out much easier from those.
Amazon is a wonderful place to shop; in addition to the Ranch Products FMC extractor tool they also sell spare moon clips for your S&W Governor.
